Outkast BOB
Outkast BOB
Outkast BOB (Bombs Over Baghdad) is a fast-paced, high-tempo exhilarating song full of funky beats. It was the first single from the Stankonia album and achieved wide acclaim for its use of a choir in the song, as well as wide opposition because of somewhat violent title of the song.
Contrary to popular belief, Outkast BOB is not about the Americas 2003 invasion of Iraq. The song was actually released in 2000, three years before the invasion (although the song does in fact reference 1991 Gulf War). The Gulf War was used as an analogy to express the true meaning of the song.
Outkast Bombs Over Bagdad real target is the music industry and the MCs that dominate mainstream hip-hop. The song criticizes how people in the music industry only go halfway through with things, never bothering to finish them.
The song and rhythm itself to me is amazing. I think the producers did an excellent job on the beat. And then you get to the Big Boi and Andres flow in the song. Its ridiculous. They say so much in such a little time. The way they ride the beat in the song can best be described as simple talent.

Make a business for yourself, boy, set some goals Make a fair diamond out of dusty coals
Great line. Period. In any business you have to first set goals to succeed. And just because you might find a dusty rock doesnt mean that it cant be turned into something pure and valuable. Clean those dirty coals that you find while digging for treasures and turn them into your cherished diamonds.
Better be a household name Weather man tellin' us it ain't gon' rain So now we sittin' in a drop-top, soakin wet In a silk suit, tryin' not to sweat Im just sitting here laughing at this line.
I love the imagery. I can picture some too-cool MCs dropping the tops of their Chevys only to be rained on while driving. Or the same MCs riding in 100 degree weather in a silk suit trying to impress people with their impressive outfits.
be whatchu wanna be Long as you know consequences are given for livin - the fence is too high to jump in jail Too low to dig, I might just touch hell - HOT
In this line Andre basically says, sure you have the freedom to be what you want to be and do what you want to do, but be aware, there will always be consequences for the choices you make. And once youre in that jail, youre in there to stay until theyre ready for you to get out.
